Notice to Vessel Operators for September 2025
For the Mentor Harbor Entrance Channel

Shoreline Contractors, under contract with the Lake Development Authority will be reconstructing the Mentor Harbor Entrance Channel during 2025.

During the month of September 2025, Shoreline is scheduled to remove the structure known as “the barge” from the harbor/channel boundary. The barge is referenced on the diagram in the area colored red. During this time, boaters should use extra caution when navigating past the barge removal site. Heavy equipment will be in use and the channel may be temporarily closed for short periods. The removal process is expected to take 3 to 5 days and will take place during the week.

As a result, boating traffic will be significantly restricted when passing the removal site. When passing the barge, boaters will pass to the east of the removal site. It is probable that only one boat may pass at a time. It is advised that departing boats, not yet passing or past the removal site should not enter until any incoming boats currently in the channel have passed the removal site. Once past the removal site, departing boats will need to make a slight turn to port to center up in the departure lane of the channel. Incoming boats will need to do the same as they approach the removal site.

The drawing of the Entrance Channel has been marked so as to graphically illustrate to vessel operators the portion of the Entrance Channel that will be available to boaters during the September of 2025 for entering and exiting the harbor.

The color Green designates the existing original steel Entrance Channel Wall Structures.

The color Brown designates the Armor Stone enhancement of the existing Channel Walls.

The color Blue designates the portions of the Entrance Channel that are available to vessels for safe navigation..

The color Red designates the portions of the Entrance Channel that are restricted from use by any vessel due to the dangers associated with the reconstruction operations currently underway along the East side of the Entrance Channel.

As the year progresses and the reconstruction
work progresses, the Entrance Channel Safe Navigation alignment will shift. Future Notices will be issued to provide vessel operators with directions regarding the progressive realignments.
